Dietetics & Nutrition for Modern Women - September 18, 2006

The event was held at the Hong Kong Club in Central with 34 alumnae and guests attending. We had the honor to have Dr. Mak Yin King, founder of the International Society of Oriental Medicated Diet Therapy, address us about the topic of Dietetics & Nutrition for Modern Women.

Dr. Mak started off by sharing openly with us her own health background and experience which led her to strengthen her interest and profound her knowledge in the field of Chinese medicine. She advocated health and inner peace as the basis for overall stability within family and society. This is especially important for women being the center role of the family in the Chinese culture.

We were then introduced what Chinese medicine was about and what methodologies, theories and factors and remedial options that it comprised of. Dr. Mak then gave a broad overview of how to evaluate the characteristics of our own body based on certain symptoms that belonged to each type so that we will have a better knowledge on what kinds of medicine and herbs to use in our daily food intake or when choosing ingredients for making Chinese soup or dishes.

A Q&A session followed afterwards where an eager audience took the opportunity to ask about nutrition and tips on how to enhance personal total well-being. The take-home message from Dr. Mak for everyone was that it was very crucial to take good care of ourselves first. Dr. Mak has given us a very important yet basic lesson on the importance of health.
