DOGA aims to promote fellowship amongst old girls, not only by carrying out local activities, but also by liaising with and setting up formal relationship with groups of old girls who are overseas. To cater for growing interest and to promote greater participation, it will set up relevant sub-groups, interest groups and clubs. In addition to serving the interest of old girls, it also aims to adopt a more outward-looking outlook and carry out the School motto of "Daily Giving Service" within society.
About
the sub-committees
The twelve Sub-committees that are currently serving the School and the old girls are listed below. A brief description of each of the Sub-committees is also provided in order to help you better understand their responsibilities and scopes of services.
Art Sub-committee (Art Club)
The Art Sub-committee is an interest group of DOGA Limited formed for the purpose of providing a channel for old girls, including serious artists as well as enthusiasts and amateurs, to express their interest in art. The Sub-committee organizes cultural activities with an aim to promoting fellowship amongst alumnae with like interests and to assist and serve the alumni and School community in the form of art.
Careers and Scholarship
Sub-committee
One of the functions of the Careers and Scholarship Sub-committee is to provide career counseling and guidance to girls who are currently attending the School and/or recent graduates of the School. It is also responsible for the screening of candidates for the Dr. C J Symons’ Scholarship and the selection of the successful candidate eligible for this scholarship every year.
Choir Sub-committee The Choir Sub-committee is also one of the interest groups of the DOGA Limited formed for the purpose of promoting fellowship and creating links amongst alumnae with the same area of interest. This Sub-committee, which oversees the Diocesan Graduate Singers, attracts old girls who are keen on singing in a choral setting. The dedication and hard work of the choral group is often demonstrated by their excellent performance in annual concerts and other singing events organized by the Choir Sub-committee.
Community Service
Sub-committee The Community Service Sub-committee was formally formed in 2003 to utilize the resources of DOGA Limited to serve the community. This Sub-committee is assigned with the task of identifying social projects in which DOGA members can participate and/or to which they can contribute their service.
Editorial Sub-committee The Editorial Sub-committee is responsible for the editing of all information posted on the DOGA website, which serves to keep alumnae informed of the latest developments of its members and past, current and future events/activities of DOGA Limited. Besides coordinating closely with other Sub-committees for information to be posted on the DOGA website, members of this Sub-committee also conduct interviews of old girls and teachers with interesting backgrounds.
Finance Sub-committee The Finance Sub-committee is responsible for preparing the accounting records and handling the treasury functions, financial reporting and all accounting matters of DOGA Limited and DOGA Foundation Limited.
Information Technology
Sub-committee The Information Technology Sub-committee, which was previously called the Communication Sub-committee, undertakes the tasks of designing, upgrading and maintaining the DOGA website, developing a friendly member database application system and dealing with all information technology and related matters. This Sub-committee, which comprises members who are computer literate, liaises closely with the other Sub-committees, in particular, the Editorial Sub-committee, for the regular update of information to be posted on the DOGA website.
Legal Sub-Committee The Legal Sub-Committee was established for the purpose of providing legal advice to DOGA Limited and DOGA Foundation Limited on miscellaneous matters that arise from time to time. This Sub-committee comprises members with a variety of legal backgrounds. The first significant task undertaken by the Legal Sub-committee since its establishment was the reorganization of DOGA family.
Membership Sub-committee One of the key tasks of the Membership Sub-committee is the recruitment of new members into DOGA Limited. It organizes events that will attract and convert old girls who are not yet members. It is also responsible for coordinating with DOGA members, keeping them posted of activities organized by DOGA Limited and serving as the contact point for members and class representatives. This Sub-committee works closely with the Secretarial Sub-committee to update the contact addresses and all relevant records of members of DOGA Limited.
Secretarial Sub-committee The Secretarial Sub-committee was established for the purpose of providing company secretarial support and other administrative support to DOGA Limited and DOGA Foundation Limited. This Sub-committee comprises members with a variety of legal and management backgrounds. It is also responsible for distributing information to all members, maintaining DOGA Limited’s membership database and issuing membership cards to all of its members.
Social Sub-committee The Social Sub-committee serves the important function of organizing the DOGA Annual Dinner and other periodic social events, such as luncheon seminars and workshops, for the interest of members of DOGA Limited. A lot of hard work has been undertaken by members of Social Sub-committee to make these events successful.
Sports Sub-committee
(Netball Team) The Sports Sub-committee is another interest group of DOGA Limited formed for the purpose of promoting fellowship and creating links amongst alumnae with the same area of interest. This Sub-committee attracts old girls who are physically fit (or at least consider themselves to be), who have a strong interest in playing ball games (namely netball at the moment) and who do not mind the regular training. However, members of the Sub-committee do not merely participate in various netball competitions - some of them also participate in the training of girls in netball at DGS. Although the DOGA Netball Team has achieved excellent results in all of its competitions, the team is prouder of members’ good fellowship and great fun in practising.
If you wish to offer any help to the above sub-committees, please feel free to contact us via our website at www.doga.org.hk or at doga.info@gmail.com.
