Report on HKAC Flag Day on August 23, 2003

On Saturday, 23rd August, 2003, Hong Kong Adventure Corps ("HKAC") organized a flag day which was supported by its patron, Mrs. Anson Chan. Mrs. Elim Lau, a director of HKAC, led a group of DOGA members to assist and participate in this event in the Central MTR station.

HKAC is a voluntary uniformed youth group set up in 1995. It is a charitable organization that provides discipline and adventure training as well as social services, aimed at developing young people's physical fitness, self-reliance, sense of responsibility, team work, personal relationship and leadership. HKAC enlists boys and girls of age 12 to 18 as cadet members who bear the cost of their uniform, rations, transport and part of the cost of their training. The rest is subsidized by HKAC. Further information about this organization can be found on HKAC's website www.hkac.org. Proceeds raised from the flag day will be used to subsidize the training expenditure on cadets.

Although it was a hot day, all of the DOGA members who participated in this event found it meaningful and interesting (selling flags instead of buying them was a first-time experience for most of them!). On behalf of the Social Service Subcommittee, Mrs. Elim Lau would like to thank all of the members who participated and/or supported this event.

Elim Lau
Vice-chairperson of the Social Service Subcommittee
