The 1999 DOGA annual dinner took place on 19th November, 1999 at the Ballroom of the Sheraton Hotel. The theme of the dinner was to bid farewell to the two retiring headmistresses and to welcome the two new headmistresses. The dinner started at around 8:00 p.m. with a brief opening welcome by Dr. Shirley Ip, the Vice President of DOGA. This was followed by a gift presentation to the two retiring headmistresses Mrs. Elim Lau (Senior School) and Mrs. Rebecca Yip (Junior School). They were each given a souvenir watch as a departing gift from DOGA. The two new headmistresses Mrs. Stella Lau (Senior School) and Mrs. Emily Dai (Junior School) were then invited onto the stage. With all four headmistresses together, the whole congregation stood up to sing the school hymn. Dinner then commenced - a western style a la carte menu with three courses. Halfway through this, Mrs. Stella Lau was invited to give a brief description of the activities to celebrate the School's 140th anniversary in the year 2000. This would include a dinner with fund-raising activities and a fund raising musical "The Wizard of Oz" which would be staged at the Shatin Town Hall. There followed a games session called "The Battle of the Houses" which was eventually won by Gibbons and Symons House jointly. They were presented with the Millennium trophy. This trophy will be passed on to the winning house at next year's annual dinner. There were many good prizes for the lucky draw this year, the 1st prize being a Virgin Atlantic Airways round trip air ticket from Hong Kong to London. 1976 was the year with the best turnout and they were accordingly awarded with table prizes. The evening concluded at around 11:00 p.m. with much chatter, fun and laughter. Many thanks to the Social Committee, especially Shirley Chan, for organising the event, to all the gift sponsors and to the M.C. and the games organisers for making this event a success!
